Cryotherapy FAQS

CryoNC offers multiple treatments with the same goal – to help our clients lose weight and feel better using the latest in wellness technology in a luxury environment.

We offer whole body cryotherapy which uses extremely cold air to cause Cold Thermogenesis, a process that boosts metabolism, burns calories, improves circulation and reduces inflammation.

We offer QuickSlim cryoscultping which uses oscillating hot and cold to stimulate collagen and elastin production, melt fat, and slim the body.
We offer local cryotherapy and cryofacials to target pain and swelling in joints, or to reduce inflammation and give a glow to the skin.
We offer compression therapy to help the body flush toxins and recover from athletic stress.

First, you’ll check-in with a client service associate and complete a waiver. You’ll then be shown to your private Cryo Spa room, where the consultant will answer any of your questions. Please do not apply lotions, oils, perfume or any alcohol-based products prior to your session. We will provide you with a clean pair of socks, gloves and slippers.

MEN: Wear briefs, boxers or swim trunks. Undergarments must be dry for your safety. A towel and blow dryer can be provided if needed.

WOMEN: Wear undergarments or a bathing suit or a soft bra with no metal underwire, but it is not necessary.

For your safety, you’ll remove all jewelry from the neck down before entering into the Cryo Spa. Metal items that cannot be removed can be wrapped in an ace bandage or a sock. Metal inside the body is safe because it is insulated from the cold temperature.

Your consultant will explain the process, answer any questions and be with you for the entire session if you like. The consultant will leave the room while you undress and step into the chamber. You will then a ring a doorbell and the consultant can step back into the room.

We respect your privacy and we only see your face, as the rest of your body will be in the Cryo Spa. Cryotherapy sessions will last between 2 ½ to 3 minutes based on tolerability, but most clients find the three minute treatment to be manageable.

After you have completed your session, the consultant will leave the room and let you get dressed.

By exposing the skin to extremely low temperatures, the brain and body react in uniquely beneficial ways as a result of Cold Thermogenesis.  Even slight to moderate shivering can boost metabolism by up to 300%, burn serious calories, and trigger the production of Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT or Brown Fat).  BAT burns the white fat that typically resides in the human midsection, and provides the mechanism by which the body can shed pounds fast.

At the same time, blood is pulled away from extremities then quickly projected back, a deeply anti-inflammatory process which affects the whole body, and flushes toxins from the system.  High levels of oxygen in the blood amplifies the effect, and with improved circulation more nutrients and oxygen are available to tissues, improving energy, muscle recovery, and promoting collagen.  In addition to burning 500-800 calories over the next 24-48 hours, one might also expect a cessation of pain, better sleep, and improved mood.

Unfortunately this is not covered by insurance, however you may be able to use a Health Savings Account.

QuickSlim uses the HC CRYO T-SHOCK machine to reduce fatty deposits by using extreme cold to constrict the blood vessels.  It is a non-invasive treatment of adipose tissue to induce lipolysis – the breaking down of fat cells – to reduce body fat without damage to other tissues. It consists of a special developed technique where warm and cold are used and applied directly to the client’s skin.

The treatments lasts for approximately 30 minutes and is executed manually through a slow massage over the selected area of the body.  Exposure to cooling causes fat cell apoptosis – a natural, controlled cell death, which leads to the release of cytokines and other inflammatory mediators that gradually eliminate the affected cells. Inflammatory cells gradually digest the affected fat cells in the months after the procedure, reducing the thickness of the fat layer. Lipids from the fat cells are slowly released and transported by the lymphatic system to be processed and eliminated.

The low temperatures that are used throughout cryotherapy for cellulite reduction actually penetrate under the skin. Cellulite is caused by subcutaneous deposits of fats all through the body that are found principally in the belly, thighs and hips. Temperatures that are below freezing will trigger the fluids that bind fat cells together to crystallize.  This crystallization really destroys the cells and the bonds holding the deposits together. Repeated remedies will slowly take away upper layers of fat. The cells which have been destroyed are pulled into the bloodstream after which they are disposed of by means of the lymphatic system.

Treatments can be performed once every 10-14 days and lifting treatments can be performed every 7 days. There is a physiological reason for this: when apoptosis occurs and some fat cells die, waste is formed. This will be eliminated by natural routes (blood, lymphatic system, and then urine). Metabolism must therefore be allowed to evacuate this waste without overloading the system.

Infrared heat is completely safe and healthy for all living things.  You can be exposed to infrared light for hours without the risk of burning.  Infrared is a naturally occurring output of the sun, but does not contain the harmful UV rays associated with unprotected sunlight.  In fact, infrared heat is so safe, it is used in hospitals to warm newborn infants.

Infrared heat is very gentle.  The experience is similar to lying in the sun on a warm day and feeling the heat radiate to the core of your body.  Unlike traditional (hot rock or steam) saunas–which operate at well in excess of 200°F–infrared heat has the benefit of being effective at a more comfortable operating temperature of 100°-150°F.

Traditional saunas heat the air vs. the body directly.  Rather than inducing detoxification and relaxation, this can make the experience unbearably hot and difficult to breathe.  Because infrared heat penetrates human tissue vs. simply heating the surface of the skin, infrared saunas are seven times more effective than traditional saunas at detoxifying the body.  By raising the body’s core temperature, infrared saunas can produce a sweat composed of 20% toxins vs. only 3% toxins with a traditional sauna.

Leave the temperature at the default setting of 150°F and turn your sauna on 60 minutes before you’re ready. Enter with 30 minutes remaining and you’ll have the perfect session! If time is short, jump in after 15 minutes, as your Sunlight Sauna will already be at 100°F! Drinking an electrolyte replacement water or sports drink is strongly recommended before and after sauna use.

During your compression therapy session at CryoNC you’ll have the sensation of a very tight squeeze that works its way up the chambers of the device you’re using (arms or legs). It’s very relaxing, much like a massage, as it soothes your sore and tired muscles.

Compression Therapy is designed to externally compress the limbs in a way that mimics normal physiology using a sophisticated pulsing, gradient and distal release compression pattern for the most effective recovery tool.

You can use Compression Therapy before or after exercise, for routine training or high-level competition.
